We travel across Argentina through the steps of its most sensual dance, while exploring its other traditional dances like malambo, chacarera, and zamba. We even reach Spain to immerse ourselves in the passionate spirit of flamenco!<\/em><\/p>\n

We also take care of our bodies with strengthening classes and practices that enhance our fitness and health.<\/em><\/p>\n

Tango – Milonga – Vals <\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n

Everything started with the need for communication among people, who didn\u2019t know each other, and although they may not have had a common language, homeland, traditions or religion, they shared the same feelings, experiences, and hopes.. This is exactly what happened to the docklands and neighborhoods of Buenos Aires in the late 19th century. The need for communication created a dance, which would travel all around the world and would captivate everyone with its eroticism and passion. Milonga, which is one of the origins of tango, reminds us with its cheerful and fast pace the african roots of tango. Along with vals criollo, that came from Europe to take the steps and musical instruments of tango, they are all dances based on the \u201cconversation\u201d between the dance partners. A dancing dialog, which starts with the embrace and continues with the steps.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ability to trust one another and walk together, share the same space, thoughts, melodies, desires, all these while being embraced are the greatest characteristics of these dances. They are the only dances that rely on the embrace.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Professional Preparation

For dancers: Is open to students of an advanced level and requires a good physical condition. Basic parts of the class are tango salon and tango escenario, as well as elements of tango teatro.
\nFor dance instructors: Is open to professional dancers or students with years of experience and the main axes of the class are the teaching of both roles, the coaching method, the history of tango, the structure of theory and practice during class.
\n<\/span>The professional preparation is followed by a corresponding certificate from Escuela de Tango de Buenos Aires, whose network includes our dance studio.<\/em><\/span>

Tango Atelier is pleased to provide, for the first time in Greece, dance classes for the traditional Argentine dances with strong influences from Spanish dances and claps. If you haven\u2019t yet visited Argentina, chacarera, zamba, and malambo guarantee to take you there.

Chacarera<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Chacarera is one of the most characteristic traditional dances in Argentina and includes couples dancing and facing each other. It was born in the 19th century in Santiago del Estero province and later spread across the whole country.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nowadays, due to its cheerful pace and group energy, chacarera can be found in almost all of the milongas in Buenos Aires and all around the world. The most common and pleasant characteristic of chacarera are the dance figures, known as zarandeos for women and zapateos for men. As a means of expression, the women use a long and wide skirt, while men are making claps with their heels, as zapateos. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u0396amba<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Zamba is one of the most romantic, traditional dances of Argentina, and was born in Salta and Santiago del Estero provinces. The dance requires a couple and the two dancers are using a white scarf, as a means of expression. The rhythm is slow and harmonious, and is considered to be the dance of love.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Malambo<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

A dynamic and very rhythmical dance, in which the dancers were creating the music and pace themselves, using their hands and feet to clap and make feet sounds the same way that happened in the first forms of dance around the world before the musical instruments were created. Malambo was preferred by the gauchos, the cowboys of Argentina, who were dancing with their characteristic boots and spurs. It is accompanied by percussion instruments or a guitar, and the result is compelling.<\/span><\/p>\n

Flamenco<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n

Flamenco refers to a specific kind of song, music, and dance that were derived from the region of Andalusia, and it later developed into a distinctive part of Spain\u2019s culture. <\/span><\/p>\n

Regarding its origin, it is widely accepted that Flamenco is connected to the arrival of the Gypsies from India to Andalusia in 1425. The Gypsies brought with them plenty of songs and dance styles with strong Indian influences, which they later exchanged characteristics. These days, Andalusia was still under Arab domination, and together with the Jews and the Moors, the Gypsies were soon persecuted by the Catholic monarchs. All these different, under persecution cultures, were living in harmony for many years, and the fusion of their music and dances is, as we nowadays know, the Flamenco.<\/span><\/p>\n

Flamenco is really expressive for the dancer and is characterized by the movement of the hands and the rhythmic tapping of the feet, which doesn\u2019t rely on choreography, but improvisation, based on the rhythm (palo). Furthermore, its main elements consist of the feet sounds of the dancers (soniquete) and their sharp pacing (zapateado). Castanets or fans, scarfs, and skirts with tails are often used. There are different kinds of rhythms and musical genres, called \u201cpalos\u201d in Spanish, which number more than 50, others more common and others rare.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Apart from its choreographic greatness, Flamenco teaches the dancers to use their body as a musical instrument. The gradual gain of discipline and control of the body helps boost the dancers\u2019 confidence.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Flamenco is a great torrent of feelings and outbursts, a unique art that combines happiness, pain, love, and sorrow as it changes shapes and colors. It makes you feel free, wanting to express yourself through the body language, and share the secrets that you usually hold for yourself.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

There are no gender or age boundaries; all women, men, children, and the elderly can dance. The only conditions are a good mood, and the passion, and thirst to meet this one of kind art!<\/span><\/p>\n
