Tango Atelier was created by Margarita Plessa, a Greek professional dancer and artist, along with Ariel Perez, a professional dancer and actor from Argentina. Inspired by their mutual love for tango, arts, and Argentina’s culture, they wanted to create in Athens, a dance and art studio where different cultures, forms of expression and movement would be able to coexist and be combined in a creative way.

The idea behind Tango Atelier’s logo derived from the art of the native people of Latin America. Guardas, known as the life symbols of the mapuche, incas, mayas, aztecas, tehuelches, aymara and many other tribes, through their authenticity, spontaneity, and artfulness indicate the wisdom of the early people of Latin American continent. Chosen among hundreds of others, the symbol dies out in the depths of time and no one can say with certainty, to which tribe it belongs to. Besides, the tribes were so connected to each other, having no graven borders, as we know them today. Wherever it comes from, each guarda, through its symbolisms and artfulness, never ceases to remind us that we are all Earth’s inhabitants with common origins and worldviews, and art is the universal means of communication.

THE STUDIOS

Tango Atelier Home

It is our new studio, our biggest home, which we expect to launch in 2021. We are looking forward to welcoming you and taking our first steps together to another area of Athens, the neighbourhood where we grew up. We are preparing a modern space of high aesthetics with a 150 square meters, special sports floor in the center of a leafy estate. The layout and decoration of the space resemble a comfortable and warm home with all the amenities and facilities of a dance studio. Tango Atelier Home is open to everyone who wants to dance, exercise, and study the art of tango argentino.

Tango Atelier Loft

In the heart of Athens, a loft full of huge window walls and balconies, with the view of Acropolis and Athens from above, became our first home, which launched in 2008 as a painting studio. In the course of time, it changed form in order to be able to host Argentine tango classes, invite artists from abroad for seminars and organize unforgettable theme nights. Just like that, a former painting studio transforms into a dance studio, and the outcome is extraordinary. Works of art, lots of color, and light created a warm environment, flooded with love for arts.
